eBay - Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

60 Healey on eBay

https://tinyurl.com/2vqpom

Has the earmarks of a bogus listing yet 22 people have bid on it - as much as $14999. He cancels all bids with the Explanation: "Please contact me before to place any bid !" If it was legit, it would have sold 3 days ago with the 9,200 (dollars I assume) asking price.

One feedback, from a guy with no feedback. Car priced about 1/3 or less than it's worth...

The only thing creative to do with these is banter back and forth with email to keep yourself amused, if you have the time and inclination.

They only need to catch a sucker, or so, a week to make some real money.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

Ask him if he will do C.O.D. to you in Lagos, Nigeria. He may even be there himself <G>

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

This one is unique..usually you can spot the scammers
pretty easily and as you say only the 9,200 makes
it evident it's something strange plus cancelled bids... But then again it doesn't say 9,200 what? could be
head of cattle...lol

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

Seems to be back again without the "buy it now" feature.
Reeks of something.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

What really bothers me about this one is that I have reported it to eBay several times and the let it run. When I have reported them in the past, they were gone within hours. He's had 36 bidders at this point and cancels them all.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

he hasn't replied to my e-mail, he's ruining my fun... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

bid a couple of million on it...That'll get
his attention...,

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

i dont buy any thing on ebay if i cant go and see it
only bid as much as youre willing to lose
then again i havnt bought anything over 100
imo if they were genuine theyd be answering emails

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

this is the latest and greatest scam on ebay, or anywhere really. The rub is that the price will never be over $10,000 on any of the scams. that's the magic number that makes this type of thing a felony. Under 10k its only a misdemeanor, and there aren't many (if any) legal options to be pursued under 10k other than with your CC co. At least no law agency will pursue it under 10k anyway.
The reason you'll always see these is, well... there's one born every minute!

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

Ah, but if you mail him any money, or correspondence referring to the item, sale, etc. And he sends it back it is mail fraud. Irregardless of the dollar amount.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

I sent this guy an e-mail from a throw-away account during the auction. When it was over, I got an e-mail offering me the car for $9200. I then got a bogus e-mail that looked like it was from eBay saying I have won the car and send a money-gram $2900 deposit to an address in Miami. The sad thing is there are honest but naive people that will fall for this and lose their deposit. I've sent copies of all the junk I received to eBay but they haven't shown any interest.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

Marv...good job reporting it...while there are tons of this going on everyone still needs to turn em in. I really enjoy looking at the cars and have bought several off ebay but those that don't due their due diligence "BUYER BEWARE"!.

As far as I can tell E-Bay doesn't do anything for buyers. Their security assurances for buyers are completely laughable, and they seem to do absolutely nothing to enforce their policies unless outright criminal behaviour can be shown.

I've bought a number of items over the years and have only had a couple of bad experiences, but when they go bad... they go very bad....

[/quote] ---- james what you say is correct, i.e. several years ago i bid and won a healey front shroud no one else bid on it at all and i won it for $80.00 the seller tried to remove his offer for the shroud but could not so he posted a $1000000.00 shipping and handling fee, i located this nuckle head by phone and told him i realized the shroud was worth more then my winning bid of just $80.00 and that id give him $600.00 i didnt have to do this but i felt he shouldnt bleed that much in the transaction he told me he would not sell it to me at any price and filed a non payment strike against me i tried to clear this up with ebay but they make it imposable to correct. as they say "no good turn goes unpunished" its not so much the quality or truthfulness of description of items that come into question but the character of many of the sellers involved, in my opinion ebay does not help the buyers! if they did we woulnt be seeing such numbers of blatant and obviously fraudulent offerings. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

Anthony, why you complaining about a $1M s/h fee. Isn't that what all you Greenwich guys pay?

Ebay has ways to deal with excessive shipping costs now, because of problems like that. Also, they have a customer service phone number they give out to certain people that they like better than others (like me), and it can be used to straighten out stupid problems like that. It's still one of the best places to find stuff when you need it, and most car guys are pretty good about being straight shooters. It's not because of ebay, but because of the type of people who love cars.

This doesn't apply to the people scamming, since they aren't really car guys. They are just scammers. I know that ebay is trying to deal with them, but they still have a long way to go. They know it too.

But as you know, Anthony my friend, not all people who sell Healey parts can be trusted.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

shg, nah your not talking about? ya know whats his name? you couldnt be! no not him! the guy that? ah come on now! ya mean the person we now commonly refer to as "the lethargic slug"? the mole? the sloth? the giant beaver? nah not him. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif dont get me wrong i still do lots of business with ebay im just not satisfied with their buyer protection efforts, by the way the fact that have possession of such a coveted phone number implies that you have also had a problem/problems with them. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

Re: Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus?

Just for fun I reported it to ebay using their violation form that the guy doesn't have title to the car and again using a different form, counterfeit item. Maybe coincidence but bidding stopped in two days. I suspect ebay doesn't read letters but keywords on their violation forms bring results.
