This is what the egg hunt looked like yesterday in the Lehigh Valley of PA. The eggs really were not well hidden on top of the snow, except for the ones that were in the footprints. More of these photos can be seen at https://www.flickr.com/photos/brooklands/albums/72157694880885705.
 
Maybe the tradition of dyeing Easter eggs developed in the far north regions of Scandinavia?

All the snow must have made finding plain white eggs very frustrating.
 
They are easy to find if eggs marks the spot.
