Well last night around 8:00 PM we heard and felt a noise, like something fell outside, this mornings news said we had an earthquake which was about 85 miles West of us. Amazing just how far the sound and vibrations travel through the ground. PJ

Scary stuff! The only time I've experienced a quake (temblor, really) was in Ecuador. We were sitting in the bishop's office eating lunch and there was a weird sensation - kinda like we were sitting on Jello. Only lasted a couple of seconds and wasn't strong at all. Strange feeling, though.

And when we bought insurance for the log home we built over here, it was strongly recommended to add earthquake insurance. Not really prevalent over here, but the same insurance covers sinkholes, which are...

Anyway, sounds like you didn't have any adverse affects; glad for that.

The one that damaged the Washington monument a few years ago was felt here in SW Ohio. I recall I was standing up reaching for something and felt the building sway slightly.

When I was stationed in Greece in the 80's I was awakened early one Saturday morning but a shaking bed. At first I thought it was one of my airmen trying to wake me for some emergency (I was the site commander). But when I woke up enough to gather my wits, I realized there was no one in the room and the whole room was shaking. Turns out is was an earthquake centered several miles off shore from the island I was on. I don't remember the magnitude, but I'm using it was not huge as the damage on the site was minimal. Weird feeling that's for sure.

We had no damage, wasn't strong enough, but it sure got our attention. It did do some damage to buildings close to the quake. As I understand, no one was injured! :encouragement:

That's good that there were no injuries.

The quake was near Cushing and apparently did significant damage there. Wife has several relatives there that she talks with. Cushing is also a major oil pipeline crossroads for the country and probably has many millions of barrels of crude stored in a huge tank farm at any given time.

We get them here occasionally,& most of them are "entertainment" (minor).
I've noticed, while at work,if I wasn't sure we had one,I'd looked to see if anything was
still swaying,as,if you're moving around, you don't really feel the minor ones.
It's also interesting to watch people during one,as the stop dead in their tracks
for a short time.

I worked in a tall building in Los Angeles for a while and there were several earthquakes during that time. We could feel the building swaying etc but what I remember most was the noise of the suspended ceilings banging back and forth. Never bothered the natives but I never got used to them.

I've slept through 5.0's

Tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods all checked. Just wish they would stop.

All have been around longer than we have and will continue long after we're gone. I'm worried about that 1 in a billion comet that hits and turns the Earth into cinder dust.
