TR4/4A Early TR4 with leaky carbs

I had my Triumph TR4 Zenith Stromberg Carb rebuild by Jeff Palya. I'm having trouble with the carbs leaking from the rubber gaskets at the bottom of the carbs. The first time I changed the seals the "new" old ones fell apart in my hands. I bought some new ones at the local auto parts store and was assured that they were for fuel, but now they are leaking as well. The leaking happens after the car sits for a month or so. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there thicker seals? should I add plumbers tape or some sort of sealant?

Scguy, go to Lowes and the plumbing department. Pick up a pack of #13 "O" rings and that should solve your problem, mine haave been in for a year and no leaks.

This might help.

Doesn't seem like the right size to me, but this is what a #013 is.

I would specify that the O-ring be either Buna or Viton. These two compounds will hold up to gasoline. Viton is generally a brownish color while Buna are black.

I had Viton O-rings in my freshly-rebuilt cars and all three (trips) lasted all of a month. Went with regular black rings and all is good. I don't think that Viton is all that good, me.
