TR4/4A Early TR4 - Windshield Trim Covering

The "budget paint job" continues and I have now turned my attention to the windshield frame. The vinyl type material surrounding the frame on the inside doesn't look too bad, but as I have it all apart I am considering replacing it. Anyone done this and if so what material did you use?

It's a capping piece probably from the big vender's if it's what I think your talking about.
 
Thanks for the response, but what I am trying (badly) to describe is the material that is glued all around the inside of the frame.

I have now found that John Skinner in the UK quotes a kit, but if I can find a similar material over here I will use the old pieces as a template.
 
Just moving this back up the list. With the wealth of experience on this forum someone must have done this before, any ideas?

I haven't seen any of these kits for sale - but on my TR4 the previous owner used some thin black vinyl like seat material. As thin as it is, it really doesn't look original in my opinion, something in a thinner textured plastic would be better.

If they are like the TR6 then they are molded pieces. Which could really increase the expense and effort of making them yourself.

If your still looking for materials though, I would take a piece and head to the largest local auto upholsterer. Ask nicely if they have any sources for such a material. The suppliers aren't likely to advertise to the public at large.

Right your are, Shawn. They are really complicated, vacuum formed pieces, that for 99 bucks, ya really gotta want to do something to beat that. Getting vinyl to stretch and adhere to all those convoluted surfaces is really, really tough.
 
Larry, that sounds about right. Where did you get the headliner material from?
