MGB Early MGB fuel tanks

Greetings,
I'm working on a 1964 MGB GHN34/48618. Moss motors lists 1 tank as appropriate for this chassis and 2 tanks for 1965 through 1969. I'm wondering if a later tank could be fitted to the earlier car. The split seems to have to do with the sending unit. One for Jaeger gauges, one for Smiths gauges, both with screws securing sender to tank. The last being Smiths sender with bayonet style mount.
Is it possible to install the later Smiths bayonet style tank into the early car providing i also purchase the appropriate sender? The car has a Smiths gauge which I have no reason to beleive has been replaced. The price difference is around $300.00. Also the less expensive tank is not baffled. Any issues? This car is to be a nice driver not a concours competitor. Any word of wisdom would be appreciated.
Regards
Craig

The change has to do with how the tank mounts. The earlier tank mounts on two straps like an MGA tank. The later tanks are held with bolts along a flange. They aren't interchangeable .
