TR2/3/3A Early Lockheed Master Cylinders

Got the VB parts in the mail today. As I expected, the pin they sent was a straight, 9/32" clevis pin with no step. I guess the "re-drilled" pushrods will be the ones I use. The stepped-hole pushrods will go to the spares pile...

Here is the follow-up on the MC and pins. The MC came back, and all looks good. I won't know for at least a couple years how the rebuild is (since that is my projected target date to get a body on the frame). The pin from VB is 9/32" straight. No step. Of note for future restorers, the original style pushrod will NOT work with this straight pin. Your choices will be to weld up the pushrod and re-drill like I did...or do what Mike did and have a pin special made for the original pushrod with the double sized holes. Another option is to use a small bushing on the straight pin...but that will be for somebody else to try out.

Notice that to use the factory style spring washers, the pins must go from the inside to the outside. Also note that the pins will not fit this way! The trick is to press one pedal, which makes room to work on the other pin. Then push the opposite side pedal to work on the other pin.



Anyway, the rebuild came back with the pushrod seals shown in the pic. I popped those off and put on the Moss bellows style seals. They are very tight on the pushrod. I mean VERY tight. There is no chance they will ever work off, even without the circlip to hold it.





Thus ends the saga of the original lockheed dual master cylinder! 3 months to get this pedal assembly together...!

 
Glad you got sorted out John. Three months sounds about right! Sure I took at least that long. Plus, the pedals that came with my car were not correct, but did not find that out till I had rebuilt them and decided to test fit. They had the bend in them for Girling setup, not the straight levers needed for Lockheed system. Took some time to track down correct ones, but at least I had previous rebuilding experience by then.

i did not install those springs and not sure they are essential. So far no issues.

I was studying the VTR website...they say the pedals didn't change thoroughout the life of the TR2/3. You and I know that's not correct! The TR4 pedals look the same, but they have a different bend too from the TR2/3.
