Early Bugeye Coil Bracket

While reading through the Concours Registry yesterday I found some that just doesn't seem correct. It says that, for the early coils which were mounted on top of the generator, the coil clamp bracket was painted red.

From Chassis number AN5/501 through Chassis Number AN5/11888; the ignition coil was mounted on top of the dynamo (genetator). The dynamo clamping bracket was painted engine green. The ignition coil clamp bracket was painted red. The ignition coil was fastened to the dynamo bracket by two zinc plated hex head bolts, washers and nuts. From chassis number AN5/11889 onward; the ignition coil was relocated to the right hand wheel arch gusset plate. From this change point forward, the ignition coil bracket was zinc plated.

Anybody ever seen a coil bracket painted red?

I have an old rusted one that appears to have traces of red paint!!

I dunno... I'll check mine later today.

Mine appears to be black. Probably not original paint.

My BE serial no is 6509. It had a block that the coil mounted on on the gen. The block was black, the coil mount was a cadium plated metal, but it could have come from anywhere.

Mine is AN5 1740. I unfortunately dont have the original coil and bracket, it had a lucas sport coil when I bought it.

Think the Sport Coil may have been orginal as well as the other. My two year old one had a Sport Coil.

Yes, the early ones were painted red.

Refer to the photos and/or video of David’s car 501 on the Bugeyeguys website for an example.

I wonder if it had to do with the parts bin it came out of. I am sure you have other parts (in my case painted shocks) that made it easy for the assembler to identify the correct one.
