Early BN1 Sidescreen Restoration

Hi Dougal,
The item bid of $512 USD still leaves a lot of work ahead!
I inquired with Steve of Cape Sport about making these a few years ago, his guesstimate at the time was about 1000 sterling a pair, equates to about 1500 USD, so take off $500 leaves $1000, making the L/R moulds say $200, each window say $100 leaves $600, purchase of rubber bits, say $100 leaves $500, straightening frames and fiddling say $300 and how good is the resultant effort?, leaves $200, rechroming and re assemble say $300, your going backwards, and this doesn't include possibility of having to sweat off and reset pegs or the fact that they are not a perfect spatial match to your windscreen/door top profile in the xyz planes

Or the burnt out eyeballs researching all this, I think the big companies call it R&D and factor it into the costs, and the greatly appreciated help of john Wheatley, Blair Harbor et al for their assistance in getting it all right!

Your certainly going the extra mile (sorry kilometer). I must admit its the look of the plane perspex windows that I like over the "proper" ones for my 1955. What i'm really after is the most economic way of keeping the rain out. It looked to me that the early ones would be easier to make than the later versions. I have just seen your mail and will reply.

Course when I say keeping the rain out, I'm talking about reducing it to a couple of liters/min, I have heard about people drowning in Healeys in a heavy dew.

I have always said, the only difference between driving the Healey in the rain with the top/sidescreens up, and driving in the rain with them down, is not as many peole laugh at you; you get just as wet!

Recently over here there was a segment on mythbusters that"proved" that walking through the rain actually left you less drenched than running through the same!
wonder if this means I should park and walk! :smile:
