E-break adjustment

I was trying to adjust the emergency (parking or hand break) at the right rear wheel this afternoon. I was unable to get the clivis pin out so I could rotate the fork. The cutter pin is out and the bottom of the fork moves but the pin wont budge at the top. I'm soaking in PB blaster. What else can I do?

Hi TH,
As barbaric as it sounds, I probably would clamp some vice grips on the head and give a twist. Then go buy a new one. Sometimes I have no patience for a 50¢ part. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

Tahoe - did you adjust the brake adjusters on the back of each drum first? You have to do this before fiddling with the cable adjuster, otherwise your settings will be all off.

It's likely that a notch is worn into the pin. Release all pressure on the joint & the pin should come out. As mentioned, some real force with vice grips might be needed. You may want to replace the pin. The official drill calls for periodically putting a couple of drops of oil on all of the joints so that they don't wear.
