e-brake puzzle

I had posted a while back that my e-rake wasn't working properly.
I used a dremel on the handle where the clevis meets the handle but it still wasn't working up to snuff.
I found another handle on e-bay. When it arrived I was perplexed. The clevis point is above the handle on the "new"
one and below on the one currently in the car. Wrong year?
The more I looked at the things I could tell they were identical
except they appeared backwards to each other. Bizzarro world
handle?
Duh...right hand drive vs left hand drive car.
It would appear the one that was in the car was for a right hand drive car. The one in the pic is the one I will install
and I'd guess it was for a lefty car and my car is a lefty.
Anybody need a slightly dremeled right hand drive e-brake?
Or...have I be putting the darn thing in backwards?
Lefty with clevis above or below?

They used the same handle on both RHD and LHD.

So how the heck did these two handles end up mirror images, ie backwards from each other? You can't just flip one upsides down and install it. If I put the existing one on the other side of the tunnel it will be oriented just like the new one, that is,
with the clevis attachment at the top. Conversely if I put the new one on the right side of the tunnel it will have the clevis at the bottom.
The handles definitely are NOT the same. Identical but for the right/left orientation.

Maybe from a different model car?

Must be. Now that I've removed the old one and installed
the "new" one, a side by side comparison shows a little difference between the two. The "old" one is more straight.
Not a lot but a little more straight and less angle to the handle.
The plate to the tunnel is the exact same. The "gear" teeth etc look the same. It's just "upside" down from the "new" one.
In any event the shiny new one works perfect. I feel a lot better having that e-brake working as a parking brake too.
I will not throw the old one away but Lord knows what it came from. Anybody wanting to mount a handbrake
on the right side of the tunnel...I got a handle for ya.
