To a novice like me, that looks like a lot of car for the $$$.

The Elva is almost identical in performance.

Kent Non X-Flo -vs- MGA 1600 Non X-Flo (this one is a toss up)
Ginetta & Elva both have 4 link live rear
Weight has to be about the same (I don't know that one)
Aerodynamic edge goes to Ginetta.
Frame rigidity goes to Ginetta.
Elva did it in 58 & the G-4S2 is a 63
Tire size goes to Ginetta unless you cut the Elva.

IMNSHO I'd say it took to the series 3 (1964)for Ginetta to come through with a car that was a real advancement over the Courier.
(But by then the Courier had Tru-Track and a MGB engine)

All things considered....I wouldn't be afraid of one on the track /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

AND.....ELVA is 1/2 the price!!!

Yeah, looks like the car park at round valley?
Climax motors are VERY pricey as you probably already know.
If it were not for a few of us crazy people, most of these cars would be gone forever...so not a bad deal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I've a couple pictures of the ginetta...

That's a 1600 Kent-powered car too....my favorite engine for these cars.

That Kent can be wicked fast when tuned-up.

Anyone who replaces that engine should be flogged. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

I think my Bro is getting something like 125 hp. out of his now.

Dang thing pulls almost as hard as his stock 67 GTO....Not Kidding!

My '65 Cortina is getting 125 hp at the rear wheels out of a 1600cc Kent. It feels nearly as fast as my 302 Ford powered Cortina did. There is more in there, too. The '65 GT is a 1900lb car, the Vixen probably 4-5 hundred pounds lighter maybe?

A few years ago, there were lots of Kent Motors and dual weber set ups for sale in the TVR club newsletter leftovers from V8 conversions. Pernonally, I like the 3 Liter Essex powered 3000S.

The earlier cars were actually a bit lighter with the same suspension (Grantura Mk 3) and an MG engine.

I temporarily used my TVR race car as a test mule for my Twincam race engine, just because it was easier to get at the engine than it was in the MGA. I thought it rather suited the car! My TVR is now racing in Europe - last ran at the Nurburgring in the Fall.
