TR2/3/3A Dzus Bonnet Fasteners on TR3

I am replacing the missing male Dzus fasteners on my bonnet and I have a dumb question, what holds this on the bonnet? I ordered sets of parts from VB, got the fastener and two "grommets", but I can't figure out how all this is retained on the hood. There appears to be a groove on the Dzus fastener, is there an "E" ring that goes in this groove?

My recollection is that there was a thin sorta springy washer that you push over the end of the installed dzus and it popped into that groove. The curvy/springy shape may be to keep the fastener from rattling when the bonnet is up and the engine is idling.

I'll confess, I just used a bit of safety wire looped once around them in that groove, twisted tight and then clipped the excess.

My neighbour made me the tools to put mine on in 1990. Last year, on another TR3A I restored, I bought these from Roadster Factory or Moss. They came with a page of instructions with diagrams. Call your supplier for his instructions.

Yeah-- putting those little spring keeper washers on and getting them into the groove was a little bit of effort after I painted my car. If you can push it over the end of dzus and then hold the body of the dzus with a good gripper (protect if you don't want to scratch The dzus) then work the keeper into the groove. I think I used needle nosed pliers.
