I've got a question for all of you TR6ers out there. Has anyone heard about, or does anyone actually use the Dynamat Hoodliner? It's in the new Moss Motors catalog. Here's what the copy says, "Hoodliner absorbs engine noise with .75" thick Sound Soaker urethane foam and prevents hood paint failure. Reflects 97% of radiant heat while providing engine insulation."

Any and all comments are appreciated.
 
All I know is that the stuff is expensive. And I'm not so sure I want any more heat directed to the engine. The engine compartment gets hot enough as it is. Now maybe if I had an electric fan I'd feel different. As far as noise I want to hear my engine and exhaust. Just my 2 cents worth of opinion.
 
I've not used this either and not sure of the need for it unless you are having paint failure on your hood. If your still interested in the product shop around, guaranteed to find it cheaper at a non-specialty vendor.
 
If you refering to the silver stuff I considered some of the LE cause the original was missing...I then saw an old Commet at a cruise night with silver hoodliner the owner told me it was just some type of household insulation from Home depot...He even gave me the rest of the roll, I put it on nicely and it looks great...Can't really comment on the heat cause I haven't driven it that much...Am not sure exactly what the stuff I used is called but you can buy it at home Depot(I've seen it) and it's not very expensive at all...It's Kinda like a bubble wrap in the middle with that refective stuff on either side.

That sounds like "Astro Foil". I used some inside the headliner area of my TR6's Hardtop so it would stop sounding like the inside of a tin can and so that it would better retain heat in the winter. It does both pretty well although I think the Dynamat has asphalt in it for superior sound dampening.

I've haven't really seen the need for the stuff under the bonnet. It most likely would quiet the engine noise down though if that is your goal. The underside of my bonnet is too pretty to cover up right now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thank you for your comments everyone. Right now I'm leaning towards not buying it. When I saw it in the catalog I became interested in what people on this forum thought about it. I too feel that the sound of the engine is part of what makes driving these cars so enjoyable. And as far as hood paint failure is concerned, I've never had that happen to any car I've ever owned, whether there was hood insulation present or not.

Thats the stuff! now that I think about it I've seen it acting as the headliner of many ratrods.
