I am not sure if it is possible and get good results but I have some new black side curtains I would like to dye white. Has anyone tried this and if so, how did they come out?

Thanks

Mike

Mike...Just a guess...but you might be better off to sell the black ones...then look for the white ones. Gil NoCal

Mike,

Many years ago, I repainted car seats and doors from brown to black using a product called Marhyde (not sure of spelling). The results were fantastic.

A vintage car restoration shop steered me to the product and said that it was what car manufacturers used. You may want to go to a good car upholstery shop and ask them.

Any auto paint supply can mix a vinyl "dye" for you. They call it dye, but it is more like vinyl paint. White over black will take several coats, but it will work. Follow the directions closely to prepare the surface, or it will peal later. Prep is mostly about removing the old Armour All, etc.

There is also vinyl dye in a spray can, also available at most auto paint supplies...and some large parts stores. It works, just not quite as high quality as the store mixed. The key to that type is to shake the heck out of it to mix it thouroughly before you spray.

Say, I have a pretty swell set of White side curtains ('61 TR3A), + an unused white top and Tonneau. Planning to change car color and want black canvas (vinyl). Maybe we can make a deal.

Hi,

I sent my frames to TRF about 2 years ago and they built the side curtains for me. They have never been in rain.

How old are yours and can you send me a picture? Are the windows scratched or are they in good shape?

Let me know and maybe we can work out a trade.

Mike

I'll send you some pix as soon as I unload some firewood. SC are pretty new and kept in bags.
