dusters

My son got me duster for my car. It is the California Car Duster. Do these things work. I would hate to put the car all back together and scratch it up with the duster. I know that they are only to be used for dust. If they work, how long are they effective and when washed are they still good. It says that there is something in them that attracts the dust.

I only ask dump questions because.....Well, you know.

The California Car Duster brand is the best in my opinion. It attracts dust by both the "feather" and with a special wax applied at the factory. They claim that the dirtier it gets the better it works although I have a hard time believing that. But... I never wash mine because I don't want to take the wax out of it. I've heard that you can spray it with certain types of waxes to return it to new but I've never tried it.

I use them until they're filthy and then replace. This normally takes a couple years for the full size version that I use in the garage. The small "Dash Duster" type is perfect to keep in the boot of your car for emergency use, and I tend to abuse them when I do break them out so they usually don't last more than a year for me.

So, where does a guy find these miracle workers?

I buy them at places like Pep Boys.

I use these two:

For the garage: https://calcarduster.com/originalDuster.asp

In each car's trunk: https://calcarduster.com/dashduster.asp

I've also read to NEVER place the duster on a carpet becauwse it will attract the course carpet fibers which may scratch the finish of your car the next time you use it.

Also remember these aren't washing devices. They are for light dust. Once a car has become damp such as from morning dew, even if it has since dried, the duster will do little to clean it up. For that reason I carry a small bottle of detail spray and a couple microfiber cloths whenever I travel, in addition to the dash duster.

The Califirnia Duster is great - but remember its only for light dusting and a clean car - dont' use it if you car is seriously dirty.

ya know... Having grown up in FL, I never understood them 'car dusters'. We always had enough rain to rinse off any dust that settled on a car. So, I had always chalked those dusters up to being one of those things you might want for a concourse car. However, after living out here in the LA area for 6 years now, I'm amazed at how much dust gathers on cars in a week... even when they're driven daily... o_O
