Dumb thing....

I have been plagued for the last umpteen months with a master cylinder leaching brake fluid out from under the cap, even as the car sits idle over night. Very frustrating and potentially damaging to the paint beneath. Went so far as to change the whole plaster reservoir, then leaning on Dave at TRF to give me a new gasket. Still leaks. Well, dumb s**t that I am, I have been tightening the darn cap with gorilla force, thinking tighter is better. I tried simply finger tight and, voila!, no leaks. I was torquing the darn seal and making my own leaks. I guess I was raised in the school that if a little is good, a lot is better. Don't overtighten these caps! They seal perfectly well with light pressure. Who woulda thunk......
