First, one thing to get right out there... I never watched this show. Still, I know what it was about.
This article addresses all those phony jump-landings, and how they destroyed a few hundred cars over a several year period. Amusing.

There's a long video, the second one of every General Lee jump, that summarizes all the silly landings (where a cast-iron engine at the front of a car would surely cause it to nose-dive).

So much of my childhood was tied up in that show... Probably started watching it around 1981. Even though we watched it pretty much every week, it was those Friday nights when I spent the night with my grandparents that I remember the most. "Benson" came on before the Dukes, then came "Dallas," then "Falcon Crest" if memory serves. Grandaddy and Grandmama seemed to like it almost as well as I did. Grandaddy always went to bed after Dukes was over. Sometimes, Grandmama would let me stay up and watch "Dallas" with her, though I was often too tired to go too far past the theme song. I would go to bed, but more than a few times remember being awake enough to hear the theme song to "Falcon Crest" or maybe "Dynasty." It went off in 1985, and it seemed like the end of an era.

Definitely a seminal show in my life. I was the right age, and it had a car featured. I didn't need anything else. Not much substance to the show, but the cars were awesome.

I know you guys were not watching for the cars. It was Daisy Duke. MWAHAHAHA

She had a piece of clothing named after her - Daisy Dukes!

I keep telling Mrs JP to wear her Daisy Dukes when we go in the Vauxhall (when it runs)

she punches me....

There was a car in that show? Must not have appeared often. All I recall is a girl named Daisy.

Just in case anyone is confused about the subject here...

I was young enough that I *was* watching it for the cars...

I was 7 when the show started... so yeah, it was just for the cars.
