Jack crashed an ultra lite. I don't think it was his, but no sure of that. He was very lucky to have survived that one.

Round engines make me run out of the house. Usually it's easy to tell what they are, but I've got to look anyway. We've got several Stearmans around, T6s, CJ6s, and regularly have DC3s, DC4s, and Convairs fly over.

Funny how you can always tell the difference even if you haven't heard one in years. I always look up.

I lived in Jax Beach in the early 50's when the U.S. was teaching the Pakistani air force to fly so that they would have an air force. They flew Mustangs and I would easily see a dozen or more every day.
And that does'nt include all the Navy types from Jax Navel Air and Mayport Carrier Facility.
I once saw five carriers at sea at one time, three coming in, two going out. A sight never to be seen again I would guess.

Not round but "different" sounding: one of the local flight schools/universities has been doing training in a twin that uses 4-cylinder inline diesels. The basic guts of the engine is a Mercedes diesel out of a model they sell in Europe. It's got a really odd and distinct sound.
