Dubious hardtop

I would buy it at the right rice - however, repair isn't going to be as easy as letting your friend slap some new fiberglaas over the hole....look at the underside - how is he going to match the texture/pattern?

The "pattern" on the underside looks to me like the normal semi-random pattern you get when laying chopped-strand matting into wet resin and daubing it with more wet resin, the old-fashioned way, ie by hand.

And now somebody has mentioned a headliner, perhaps that is how the original makers (probably a small subcontractor to Abingdon) covered up the ugly rough inside face of the shell.

I'll report back when I have the glassfibre guy's views and an estimate from him.

I had half thought of making a replica of it using it as a mould, and a lexan window. Today's resins are so much better, it could be made much lighter. Ideally carbon fibre would be cool but pricy.

Chris, Check out ebay for the side screens - there are two sets there right now. I am bidding on the set with the plexi though I should have seen the other first as I think it will be a better deal (no big deal to cut new plexi if you have old ones for pattern-making). Let me know if you decide to make a new one using it as a mold, I would be interested in one also while you are at it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

THAT'S the BE spirit! Who needs the comforts of a Lexus when one has a Bugeye to tool in!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I found nothing on "side screens or sidescreens" on ebay but then I probably wasn't searching in the right place.

Look in the Vintage Parts section, search for Austin healey - sprite. They are there! As I said, I have a bid in on one set.

Ok, I bid on the pair with the broken plexi and the bent brackets.

Alright, you found it! cool. I do not think we are bidding against each other as I still hold high bid on the ones I am trying for!! I went back to look for the others so I could just drop the item into a PM for you, but I couldn't find it. Ebay really perplexes me sometimes as to how things change! Good luck on your bid (hope no crazies jump in and bid like mad!!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I just won the bid for the frames for two of the old-style curtains. Figured for $15 the pair it was worth it!

Chris let me know if you win the set you are bidding on, as I will you. If I win the sliders I am bidding on, I want to put together one good set and then will have one set extra, which I will have no need for!

I already have a set of the original flexible curtains, with the screens still on the frame, it's just that one of them has big ugly brown spots all over the see-through part.
