Dual SU's?

In a state of curiosity, I did a search on eBay to see if anyone had a dual SU manifold for a 1500. Lo and behold, there is a manifold with SU's attached! Does anyone know if that's a major PITA to retrofit a single ZS car? Other than having to balance the carbs and get rid of the water choke plumbing, it doesn't seem like it would be unreasonable. Would the performance be much better than the ZS? Now that I've said it, I suppose I'll have competition for it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. It looks like I would need to get air filters separately, but I think that's a minor issue.

I have dual SU's on my 1500. Except for slight modification to the wheel well, it is a fairly straight bolt on.

I looked at eBay, and the ones I see offered or either for MGB's or the 1275 Midget. Neither manifold will fit you car.

he he.. just so happens that i have one for a 1500 , they do appear on ebay from time to time. and with the better gas mileage that i believe i will get with them i cant wait to put them on...

Um, what did you have to do to the wheel well, dare I ask? And there is a set for a Spitfire 1500. Same engine, yes?

I had to cut a corner off and weld a plate in for reinforcement.

The Spitfire 1500 is basically the same engine. The manifold should fit.

Triumph used this engine on at least one other model and the intake manifold may have been different. I am not 100% sure the one I have is off a Spitfire. All I know is I made it fit.

Mike ,
havent i seen a pic of that somewhere? Do you have one? sure would like to see what you did.

Thanks Mike, that's a useful piece of info. I'm thinking of other things I might have to do as well. As Mark said, a picture could be useful too. Guess I'll have to decide if I want to do some cutting and welding, but I know someone who could probably do that.

I converted to the dual HS4 setup this Spring. Really nice. If you want some images go to my website:
https://www.visn2.com/BritishExperienceMidgetProject.html
and about half way down is a flash photo album with some shots of it and the cut I had to make in the passanger well. If it takes to long to load let me know and I can send you some images directly. Converting over to a dual setup was one of the best things I've done so far. Best of luck.

Very nice site you have there Thor. but it looks like the pics of your dual SU set up are broke, all others load ok. I would like to see those myouden(at)vermontel.net if you have a moment please email them to me. Thanx

Sorry about the problem with the images. I added a plain photo albumn which seems to be better then the flash albumn. Just go to the same area and click on the "Images of Midget Restoration". Also I added images of the setup on the following page:
https://www.visn2.com/MidgetRestorationHx.html
about 2/3rds way down. When I cut the corner off I ended up flipping it upside down and putting it back. I used some apoxy instead of welding as I plan on taking it down completely to metal and repainting it in the next year or two. Its pretty well covered up but you might want to weld or braze the triange back in.

If you still don't get to the images I'll send them as an attachment directly to you.
