Dual Brake Line Fitting

In the process of converting BE over to later model dual brake system. As far as I can tell the only thing the brass switch housing does is alert you to a failure. It doesnt really seem to be a proportioning valve. Is it really necessary? Seems like a two way fitting like on the rear would work just fine. Am I missing something important?
 
I may be wrong, but doesn't the switch housing turn on the brake lights? I don't believe there is a "failure warning system" on the Bugeye.

If you lose pressure on either front or rear, a little shuttle valve in there theoretically slides one way or the other and allows you to have either front or rear brakes. That's the purpose. I remember it was a pita when I replace brake lines to get it set right many years ago. Frank C says he takes it out and uses a simple 4 way union from a '67 or earlier. As far as the warning light, never could figure out how to get it to work or test. Supposed to light up when button is pushed..
 
Thanks, the fitting with the sensor and valve is $400+ to source new and I have not seen any from the usual used sources lately, will keep looking. If cannot find one will use earlier style 4 way, assume any one will work?
