TR2/3/3A Drum Brake Question

Hi Guys

Does anyone know why the drum brakes in the ancient Triumph Workshop Manual (and Haynes too) both show the brake setup with the slave and adjuster at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock while my brakes have the adjuster at 2 o'clock and the slave at around 7 o'clock? Are my brakes incorrectly set up? I thought this was really odd and had a little concern while I was setting up my brakes last night.

Pat,
These manuals tend to show the first or early versions of the parts on these cars. When the parts are replaced with a newer version , the manuals were not updated with new pictures. Note that there are 4 bolts holding that plate to the axle. Yours has 6 and is the later version. Even worse is that many later parts had additional pieces included in the major parts and the pictures are still the original. However in the Spare Parts book they do list the part numbers with inclusive manufacture dates for the cars involved. Works okay only if the names of the parts are familiar. Seen any little TRUNNIONS around lately?

That's actually one of the few things that was updated in the factory manual; check out the TR3 supplement at the back (assuming you have the version with the TR3 supplement).






The same photo also appears in "Practical Hints", which was updated several times and in general is a better source of such things.
