Took my sister's friend for a ride on the Tail of the Dragon yesterday - perfect weather and the B ran beautifully. Though it's only a short drive from here, I've only run it a few times. Good fun. If anyone wants to make the trip, let me know.

There are three websites that post pictures, all by dates. We were there around 10:45 if anyone's interested in checking them out. Here's one of them:

I've driven it with the MGC twice and the 300ZX once.

It's not quite the Tail of the Dragon, but US 33 west out of Harrisonburg, Virginia, going over the mountains has something like 168 switchbacks.

Just use caution and be aware of your surroundings!

Trucks have been ban starting this year. Since when did a ban stop some one. I driven it in my TR3 and the wife's soltice, have yet to do it on the bike. Will only ride this road early morning and during a week day. To many that ride beyond the limits at other times. It is an nice ride but you can't look at the view on this road. Also there are other good road in the area. Everyone needs to drive it once.

Hey, Don! Say hi to Lois for us.

If I'm not mistaken, the truck ban was first implemented on the North Carolina side, and just recently on the Tennessee side. When we were on it the other day, not a truck in sight. Definitely the right move, as there have been some horrendous problems when those things have to take up the whole road just to get around a corner. And yes, there are plenty of folks, on bikes as well as in cars, that try to prove ~something~.

Yep - lots of other good roads here.

Mickey,

I'll be there in September - but in a Penske truck,
so might not be the wise route.
Are you going to be home, around the 23rd?

No plans that I know of. Though I don't think the Dragon will be much fun in a Penske truck! :jester: If the weather's good and you have time, we can take the B.

Mickey

Mickey, how long does it generally take in a car like the B to make the full 11 mile run? 318 curves, wow, that's almost 30 curves per mile!

You know, I haven't timed it. I would guess at least 20-25 minutes. Speed limit is 30, and though overlooked by lots of folks, it's foolhardy to do so. Plus, it's well patrolled. Neat thing is, once you've made the run, you can always turn around and go the other way.

It's a workout, for both the car and the driver, but fun!

My brother in law and sister in law did it today on their motorcycles. Not kids. She is 58.
