This is remarkable, and scary - Look at the Colorado River change over the last 15 years:

How are you west coasters faring?

It's an issue here. We've not had a really good snow year (the source of the majority of our water) in a few years, and so far this winter hasn't been great either.

Here in Alberta we had record snow for both November and December... January was rather dry and quite warm (by winter standards)... Now as we approach February we're into some more cold weather but not huge amounts of snow... I'm just waiting to see what Balzac Billy has to say on Ground Hog Day... https://www.balzacbilly.webs.com/

I live in San Diego. The weird thing is that San Diego has done a good job of negotiating various water deals over the decades so even though we have a much drier climate than Northern Calif. there are no calls for water rationing at the moment Go Figure.

The Winter of 2010 was fairly warm here and 2011s summer was very hot and our underground spring fed pond was over 4 feet below normal. We were in a drought condition. Last Summer was wet enough to bring the water table up the 4 feet we lost plus another 6 inches. Here's our pond now and it's been this way since early summer of 2013. Hope it stays this way. PJ

There any fish in there?

Some fish, turtles, snakes, only a snake now and then. :excitement: . The Herons get the fish, nothing eats the snakes! The pond is a stopping off place for the Geese and Ducks on the move. PJ

Paul- What's that little sailboat at the bottom of your pond photo?

We actually had forest fires here - in January!
They figure we can go another year, with the reserves
that we have.
I wonder if they'll make people stop filling up their
swimming pools in Southern California?

Ha, You saw that also! I never noticed it until I posted the photo on this site. :highly_amused: PJ

In fact, next week the models indicated are that California is about to be hit by a series of atmospheric rivers--currents of large amounts of moisture streaming out of the subtropics--that should continue the precipitation for quite a while. Here is a sample of the moisture associated with the atmospheric river forecast to occur on Saturday at 4 PM.

The Golden State is about to turn green.
