Driving me NUTS....

Ron, all ya need is a Lotus. You'll develop what are known as "Lotus Fingers" in due time. There's NO challenge in MGB motor mounts then. A water pump replacement in a Europa can be accomplished in less than half the (18 hour!) "book" time, the valve shim adjustments done in an hour... an MG or Triumph job becomes routine. Ferrari V-12 rebuilds are baby-poop.

Get a LOTUS!!! :jester:

Gentlemen,

I had a few minutes to tear into the dizzy last night. I opted out of drilling the connector out for a few reasons

1 - I had very little time to get too far into it and
2 - the rivet is part of what appears to be an alignment fitting...

I ran a little solder on the connection, re-assembled, and re-installed. Started on the first pull. Adjusted the timing...

I must say that it has NEVER idled this smoothly.

I think that much of my efforts in trying to get this car to run reliably and smoothly -- rebuilding and re-rebuilding, adjusting and re-adjusting the SUs, replacing the points, condenser, and coil, replacing the rotor, cap, and wires, ad nauseam -- in retrospect, were probably unnecessary had I repaired this grounding strap early on... :wall:

I will make a more permanent repair this weekend.

Gentlemen, Thank you once again for your help....

And Doc, as far as the Lotus goes... I think I have too many projects as it is... but if I find one for a great price MAYBE...

MG Fans,

I just thought that I would finish this topic out with an update.. Along with one I posted about the Flamethrower Dizzy...

Even though I had spent some time fixing (sort of) my dizzy it still just did not run smoothly enough. I was going to pull it and send it to Advanced Distributor for a re-build as several had recommended, but just never got around to it.

Thursday last I broke down and ordered the Flamethrower from Moss... (along with a pair of much needed seat belts).. It arrived on Friday and I installed it on Saturday... Installing it requires a bit of wiring modification.. just a little... the late MGB style dizzy cap and the need for non-solid core ignition wires irritates the PURIST in me...

HOWEVER.. HOLY SMOKE!!! The change in performance is really remarkable... It idles evenly, accelerates smoothly, and the top end performance surprizing -- with torque still available accelerating from 3500 rpm...

NOW... I can not say that this change is SOLELY from the solid state dizzy or if it is because the old dizzy needed rebuilding....

I just know that the car is running extremely well for the first time since the rebuild...

Uh-oh, the feeling of impending doom is coming over me -- 'Top Ten Ways' number 1
