That's terrible! Same thing happened to a neighbor of mine when I lived on Malmstrom AFB. The Master Sergeant across the street had been working on his car (under his car). His son wehn to the garage to get him for diner and found the car had fallen on him! Don't get careless!
 
That's really awful. We knew someone that happened to years ago.

I have the Spridget up on jackstands right now and will be under it today (doing real axle bearings plus other stuff). I have extra safety stands, and extra jack, a tire.....everthing but the kitchen sink under it to protect me.

If you have an emergency and can't find anything to put under your car, at least put a spare tire/wheel under it. It might save your life.
 
That's awful. Sorry to hear. Never trust any jack, always use jackstands AND a jack (any anything else that might catch the car).

Also folks, don't forget to wear approved eye protection at all times when you're working under the car (your glasses don't count and won't protect you). Get goggles that fit and protect the entire eye. They're cheap, really.

I have TWO friends who've had eye injuries while working under the car without eye protection. One friend was hit square in the eye by a flying screwdriver, ruined his retina and now the eye is blind.

Be careful out there . . .
 
Another general rule I follow is to never work alone. I always try to have someone nearby while I'm working. It is a very frightening feeling when you get stuck somewhere and can't free yourself. Jackstands and eye protection are absolute necessities. A shop is a potentially very dangerous area.

I was working alone and got my finger stuck between a head and block when the head went down all at once and was now bound cattywampus on the studs. I thought, "Am I going to have to gnaw my finger off to escape?"

I was able to extricate my finger, but it gave me some anxious moments!

Dunno. It was a yellow hillclimb Frogeye with no windscreen.
