Three months later my latest TR3a is finally running like a top. Broken timing chain tensioner. Timing 180 degrees out with tower gear put in backwards also. No gap at the valves. Regulator gaps jammed. Broken steering worm gear. A nightmare. Fixed all that. Drove it around the block..clunks at every shift. Problem looks like loose u-joint at tailshaft with one bolt missing. Fixed that...still bad clunk. I'm thinking OK, no problem, I have an extra rear end. While it's jacked up again with the handbrake on I can turn the wheels way too far back and forth. This time I see the rear end at the rear u-joint going up and down-a lot!! The old British nyloc nuts had given out and all the nuts that pinch the u bolts holding the axle tubes to the springs were unscrewed up to a quarter inch. Boy was I happy to fix that with 8 new split lock washers!! Best .48 cents I've ever spent. No clunk, Now I have a tight rear end...(let me rephrase that).
