I really don't like thinking about stuff like that. A fine start to my day, it is bad enough I have to do yard work and not drive around in my TR, you just made if worse. :jester:

Reminds me of a line from "Six Days Seven Night" when Anne Heche is chiding Harrison Ford for his lack of skills and asks "Are you not one of those guys with skills?" "You know, those guys who you send into the jungle with a pocket knife and some string and they build a shopping mall."
 
I was sitting outside enjoying the warm evening last night, and I saw the ISS go overhead. (second time I've seen it. Last time we were trying to contact them via HAM radio) I thought they'd been doing the drinking water thing for quite som time now...
Beter than those people that drink straight urine....that's just nasty. (in the middle ages it was considered a teeth whitener)

He did his tailwheel training for that movie at my local airport (Andover-Aeroflex Airport 12N).
He flew the same J-3 Cub that I learned in.
 
Actually, I am surprised they discard the "rest"! Surely there must be chemical break-downs or extractions that would yield resources for other applications like, I don't know, say, acid for batteries or something!!

This isn't "rocket science", it's a distillery. When you need pure water, you distill it. Before you know it, some astronaut will be bringing up some sour mash to distill! :laugh:

Hey, when they discovered the Baghdad Battery, they speculated that lemon juice, grape juice or something acidic was used. Urine's acidic...well, if you eat the right stuff it is! Maybe that was the secret ingredient. :laugh:
 
Local radio station reported that Astronauts had thier first taste of water recycled from urine recently and were quoted as saying "it was just the same as non-alcoholic beer" hehehehehee
