Has anyone here has any info on drill grinding machines?

A few years ago the company I worked for were down sizing their work shop and we had the opportunity to bid on stuff. I got the a toolroom drill sharpener amongst other things for a steal.
The drill sharpener is an Optima. Made in Switzerland.

I am having a learning curve to get good results with it. Trying to decide the best angles etc. I do have the instruction book but am still not getting the results that I think I should be getting.
So I was hoping someone here may have some input on it.

Is the pitch adjustable ?? I was told that different pitch for different materials and of course cooling There must be a you tube on it. Madflyer

I have never had good luck with any of the bit sharpeners we've tried. Even "industrial" versions in machine shops. If you get to the point where it works, I'd love to know about it!

For me, it's just been simpler to get a new bit!

If the sharpening stone (or device) is visible, use a new bit to set up the angles by eye.
When I was a kid, I knew an old cracker guy who was an aircraft welder and machinist who could freehand this task on a bench grinder,

At one time I could grind drills by hand. My eye sight and hand coordination make that difficult now. During my apprenticeship we were given a drill with the point ground flat and we had to get it back to the correct geometry by hand.

The Optima grinder produces a 4 facet cutting point.

I have looked on you tube for videos but all I am finding are videos of people trying to demonstrate them for sale and appear to know nothing about the machine.

I will keep working on it and let you know if I get better.

Bob is right at aircraft school they gave us a drill bit to sharpen. A dull drill will not make a true round hole 1/8 inch is no big deal but a 3/4 inch in a spar does We would have to stop the drill halfway in the plate and check the waist for even cutting. If I got the cutting right the pitch was wrong and so on never past that test. I still sharpen my pits. Madflyer

I've had better results doing it with a grinder than any 'sharpening' tool.
