It goes in behind the shroud lip. The only way to get it on is to attach it to the shroud before you attach it to the chasis. Hopefully you do not have the car painted or the fenders permanently attached.

The convertable top's drainage channel on the bj8 gets screwed to the rear shroud. Question, place the channel directly against the front of the lip on the shroud, or position it behind the lip shroud?
Did I say this any clearer? Wish I had a photo to show.
Reason I'm asking again, is it seems the screw holes don't seem to line up when placed behind the shroud lip. But seem much closer when placed directly against the front of the lip.
The body shop has tweeked the shroud so much, trying to get the quarter panels to line up with the shroud, that the drainage channel does not fit now.
If indeed the channel goes behind the lip, then new holes will have to me made.

Hi Roger,
The shroud lip should hang over the drain channel to minimize water dripping down on the carpet. I used pop rivets to attach the drain channel instead of screws. I don’t recall if that was original or not, I have an aluminum drain channel so maybe I was worried about screws stripping?

Hi Roger,
I third the motion that the shroud lip extends over the drainage channel. I believe it was originally pop riveted in place. Mine (BJ7) was painted the same color gray as the convertible top frame. It is possible to attach it after the shroud has been installed, but it requires a small amount of the channel top edge to be trimmed/ground near the sides and using a twisting motion on the ends during installation (the ground section is hidden by the shroud flange). I made the 'mistake' of not installing the channel before fitting the shroud but it does make it much easier to get to the shroud/fender attachement bolts in the channel area. There is an additional set of holes in the shroud and channel for the chrome finisher that sits on top. That is installed with a bunch of tiny sheet metal screws.
