Drag Racing Tigers

Used to think my road race car was pretty hot with a 13.52 ET at 5,200' elevation and stock 2.88 gears. Guess about 350 hp.

Another fellow now in ABQ runs his in the 10's at mid 130's. Big bottle of NOX in the trunk with big plumbing to carb. My guess is in the 500 HP range. Guys last name is Porsche. Very odd!

Understand theres another one used to be here in ABQ. Runs a 366 small block. Guess some blocks are good for .25 overbore - that's a quarter inch. 366 in a 289 look alike ought to garner some serious attention as you blast them into the past. Thsi car was an Alger and ran in the mid 130's and 10's too.

...and that is a "Sunbeam Tiger"?
I see alot of buff CJ Jeeps where the only thing original are the fenders.
Is an alcohol dragster with a car body the essence of that car?
I think we know the answer.....


that all said, I do like to see some interesting strip rigs

It's pretty cool, not much left of the original Tiger though I would say. Of course it's not much different from today's NASCAR...in the early days they were alot closer to what the factory offered and now they are just factory looking (kind of, sort of) bodys draped over a pure race car chassis. So if they say it's a Tiger then that's good enough for me.

ummm...I was being sarcastic. But it looks like it has a real Rootes Group badge on the hood. Does that count?

Jeff...you hit it right on the head...the tail lights...

The title of this post should be "Drag Racing Alpines". If you note the first few pictures the car says "Tiger Eater". The back fins are slanted, the hood badge, and the grill tells me it's a Series I or II Alpine...and it's all stock! (well maybe not all stock)
