Downflow to crossflow radiator

Anyone swapped a downflow radiator for a crossflow unit in a box sprite? I picked up an aluminum crossflow unit on the cheap the other day but now im debating on how to mount it. Whether or not to replace the radiator shroud with one from a later sprite or just make my own mountings. any photos are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Part of the reason the radiator was mounted in the offset and rather clunky shroud was to position it close enough to the mechanical fan and avoid the steering rack. I've seen a crossflow mounted lower and further forward so that it was basically under the slam panel. It was a rather neat installation, but I do not know how difficult it was to accomplish. It also would make bleeding the air out of the cooling system a little trickier... but maybe not with a rotary engine.

Branson,

Take a look at SpriteSpot under Cooling section and you'll see what Frank C. did with a Geo Metro Radiator. You can add significantly more cooling capacity with up to a 3 row available. If you google Metro Radiator I saw a 3 row available new without the extra transmission cooler that measured 12 x 12 or something like that, pricing new < $150. Even smaller footprint than what Frank was able to achieve using a Metro Radiator out of an Auto Trans car 12 x 17 I think. Just a thought.

Jim,

I didnt find anything regarding swapping a downflow for a crossflow radiator over at sprite spot...got a link?

I already have a new aluminum crossflow radiator, just looking for info on how and where to mount it in a mk3 sprite that had a downflow.

Thanks!!

I think there are a couple of 1275 cross flow shroud's on Flea-bay right now. I've been looking for a 1500 cross flow and shroud. Factory would be the easiest.

I've got the reverse, 1098 in a '68 with a Cross Flow. Use a 1275 inlet but turned 120 degrees to accommodate the 1098. Used a piece of 45 degree copper pipe wit ha couple of clamps to keep the hose from being pinched off by the tight angle.

Since you already have the aluminum radiator it's a never mind. I was trying to say there are several variations on Mero Radiator available and one version is 3 Row but does not have tranny cooler so it can be mounted really low up front.
