Dowel bolts for Transmission Bellhousing

There are two dowel bolts for the transmission bellhousing to rear engine plate. Does anyone know which of the 7 holes (not counting the 2 for the starter) that the dowel bolts go in to? Also, which way do they go in? bolt on transmission side or engine side?

From the rear the bolts go in the 1 and 7 o'clock positions. The former threads into the block, the latter can go thru from either direction.
