I was a bit surprised yesterday when I opened up the timing cover and found a double row timing chain. This is in my 69 TR6. were there factory double rows installed in those early years? The inside of the timing cover is also very clean which brings to believe it was changed at some point. Although the tensioner has some wear on it.

My TR 250 has a double-row chain. It's No. 7997 out of the 8484 made, so it was made late in '68. My manuals say the double-row was installed in later 250's. So my guess is, they made the switch late in '68, making it reasonable that your '69 6 would have one, too.

I was going by my TR250 which had a single row sprocket. I ordered a new double row set up to make sure everything was fresh on the rebuild.
