Door weatherstrip repair advice needed

The door rubber strip is coming apart. The rubber is in great condition and the U-Channel is in great condition, but they are seperating. We looked on Moss Motors, and it looks like the weather strip and U-Channel are one-piece. It looks as if the PO tried to glue together a weather stripping and U-Channel - which fits together very well, but its coming apart. My dad and I bought some Permatex Black Rubber Sealant which says it works on weather stripping, we tried to glue the two together but it didn't work. Does anybody have any suggestions on what other adhesive to try?

Yup. You have a "two-piece" weatherstripping and likely from Vicky-Brit. They come apart in short order.

Another reputable supplier aside from the ones Edward listed is MacGregor, in Canada.

Hi
I have a 68 GT that I have always had to slam the doors to get them to close flush on the outside. Last winter I decided to do something about it. I found out that the padded door panels are thicker than original, and they were the cause for a tight fit with the seals. If you don't have the padded panels new stock seals may fix you up.

I could have ripped out the padding, but I was afraid the vinyl (?) would look baggy. I could not find thinner looking seals online. I bought a weatherstrip kit from O'Reilly's. The weatherstrip was the shape of a round tube with a flat piece stuck to it. The flat piece tucked up under the U channel to hold it in place. The round tube was still too thick, so I cut out a part of it so there was only a flap that contacted the door panel. Now the doors shut Ok. If I put a piece of paper between the seal and door, I feel drag, so they seal.

Good Luck. I hope your fix is easier than mine.
