Hello all. I am restoring a BJ8, Healey blue. It is my understanding that when new, the car had blue door seals. Today I talked to Martin Macgregor of Macgregor British Car parts. This man knows Healeys! His company makes and sells door seals, "Bristelflex". Currently available in black, and soon in Red and Navy. He also sell many other products. FINALLY, some FurFlex that should stay on. I've tried the Moss junk (which is the same as every other vendor I checked until now) without and with the clips and it still falls off. I have a blue Healey too and will try MacGregor stuff when available. Do you know if they will ship a sample to see if it's as good as they claim?
 
Frank, I do not know if Martin's door seal is as good as he claims,However a seal that will stay put but the rubber bulb is a bit larger in diameter is the TR6 material from moss and others. I also do not know why the Healey material is such a poor product given that the TR6 material is very good.--Fwiw---Keoke
 
that's a good question about whether MacGregor will send out a sample. If the stuff really stays, it would be a huge benefit. Perhaps one of us could do some testing to see whether it lives up to its claims. Keoke, you're the man for this job. Care to give it a go?

I received a sample of Martin's product and it looks great to me. Doesn't appear that there will be any problem getting it to stay in place at all. I am waiting for the red trim so I cannot comment on actual application but the black sample is a great improvement over anything else in the market.

Great. Looking forward to your critical review. BTW, did I tell you that I was thrilled with the Bell ss exhaust? My next project is to figure out how to add an amplifier to my old Becker radio so I can hear it above the new exhaust. I'm having some difficulty trying to figure out where to place it and how to get it to get power to it. These old radios weren't meant for amps. Yet again, if only I had paid more attention during my misspent youth.
 
Do you find the Bell louder than the steel? My Bell system sort of mellowed the sound. Took a while but I like it. I can now hear my wife suggesting "modifing my driving techniques".
 
I really like the sound of the Bell. It is more mellow, less rough, but you still get the roar when you kick it. My neighbors tell me they like it too.

Yeah I will provide some feed back when martin gets the sample here.RE: amplifier addition.If it is a compact unit like mine it can be stacked right on top of the radio.Some simple retainer brackets may be required nothing difficult though. The nonstereo out put speaker line can become the input signal to the amp.If the amp has a sterreo output you can now drive 2-to-4 speakers.However, if you want the amp to come on using the radio power on/off swich you will have to go inside and tap off the radio's power switch-not a big deal either.---Keoke

That's where I always start to get into trouble. I haven't checked yet, and there might be a power antenna jack which would work easily, but if not I worry about opening it up again. The last time I did, I caused myself a bunch of problems with the push button springs.

The amps I've been looking at are all small, and relatively low power by today's standards, but I was wondering if putting one atop the radio would not allow it to get enough air flow. Probably doesn't matter with these compact low power units. Thanks again.
 
Yes SHG the cooling can be handled if you leave about a 1/2" space between the two units the suggested brackets can set this up.Good point I forgot to include it.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif--PS if you want to use 2 or more speakers get a 100 watt unit if its small enough.
