Door panel material

What have you guys used to make your own door panels, and what tool did you use to cut the material?
Thanks
Rick

I have used an upholstery grade cardboard ("tagboard"), covered with marine grade vinyl. Not a real original look, but OK for an everyday driver. I cut the board with a sharp knife or a saber saw. I have also used thin Masonite.
Good Luck with whatever you are working on!

The door panels on my Morris Minor Traveller are wood panelling, thanks to the DPO.

I've used 1/8th inch hardboard, and plywood as a base before - jigsaw works nicely. Box cutter, or scissors for the vinyl.

Funny thing - I bought a GT once that had beautiful Luan panels in it - still have them

But, I go to local upholstery shop & buy panel board to make new ones though Moss kits are probably cheaper when everything's said & done (especially when they're on sale)

Coroplast might be a good substrate too. - and more resilliant to water.

Coroplast may "dimple" or get kinked too easily. I used a polycarbonate plastic on mine. Cut it with a "Skil-Saw".

How'd you fasten the vinyl to it?

Glue works too.

I'm kinda curious, Rick - why make your own?

I made mine out of a water-resistant material that looks like 1/8" thick shirt cardboard. Got it an an auto trim shop. It may the "tagboard" that bcliff talks about. It was fairly easy to cut with a utility knife, and I just glued the vinyl to it. The trim shop made a doorpanel, duplicating an NOS panel I had. I don't have the equipment to stitch the piping into the vinyl. I made the rest of the panels. I went that route because no one would make me a deal on a '69 panel set!

All good reasons - I was just wondering.

Thought about making my own also. I like making stuff. Means more to me than saying look what I bought. I 'd rather say look what I hand crafted.
