2 questions:
-How is the door lock fastened in to the door skin? It appears I have to remove a spring clip at the end of the lock right below a small lever at 90 degree from barrel. I have this door apart for reskinning so there is access; how in the world is this done when door is together?
- I purchased a DA sander today, uses the self-adhesive sandpaper dics. When I tried to remove the paper, it had stuck too well, it came off in tiny pieces and cost me 20 minutes. What did I do wrong? (It was good paper too- Norton)
 
I've never liked the stick on paper sanders. I think you got too much of the "good" out of the paper. In other words, you used it too long. The paper was wore slap out and didn't have enough strength to hold it self together as you pulled it off the pad? Another trick we used to do is we would lightly stick them to our jeans before we put them on the pad. Of course we weren't buying the discs...lol That was a long time ago in a land far, far, away. I've stuck to 1/4 sheet sanders ever since then so my info may be a bit dated. Hope this helps,

Those door lock clips are a sort of squeeze the clip to one side, ease out that side of the lock and squeeze the other side clip. It is not a slide off clip. Pinch both sides together and the lock will pull out.

As for the D/A paper, use a bit of thinners on the paper residue to clean it off the pad. I used to use that but switched to the hook/loop pad and paper.

You are correct on both counts Mr. Jcat ! I wore the gritty and outer skin off the first paper; later, I touched the adhesive side of the disc to my dusty britches and life was good today! Thanks! (and I'll look at the lock again tomorrow; seems to me I had problems getting the lock arm through the hole in the door skin as the whole assembly wouldn't pass thru the hole. But then it was hot today and lots of sweat in my eyes. Thank you also)
 
If you heat the worn out sandpaper with a propane torch for about 10 seconds, it will peel off easily.
