TR2/3/3A Door latch

Folks,

I am replacing the door latches on my TR3A.

Am I correct that the pin that connects the release lever to the door latch is penned on one end and must be ground off to br remove?

Also, I found the part in the attached picture (assuming I attached it correctly) inside the door. Since it is white plastic, I assume it has nothing to do with a TR3A door.

Thanks.
Ron

That white plastic doo-dad is not part of a TR3.

As for your other question - are you referring to the square shaft of the outer handle and how it is secured to the works?

I am referring to the small round pin that secures the arm on the door latch (that mounts in the edge of the door) to the arm of the release lever (that is controlled by either the outside door lever or the interior cord).

Hello Ron

My one is peened over. The washer is free to rotate on the pin and it moves up and down the pin a bit. Not sure if that is correct. Just the way mine came to me.Door latch.jpg

I would use a fine file to just remove as little as possible to get the washer off. That way you could reuse the pin.

The new latches come with a new pin and spacer washer, so I just ground the end of the old pin off.
However, I think I will use a bolt and lock nut with the new spacer washer instead of the new pin. That way, if anyone else in the next 56 years needs to replace the latches again, it will be easier for them.
