Door Hinge Screws Help Please

This is on a '75 Midget.
I was able to get one out the rest snapped off.
See pic: hinge
What is the best way to remove these so I may replace with new the ones. I am afraid that the shim they are attached too might fall down deep inside where I may not be able to retreive it. Thanks!

The plate that they screw into should be captured (if not too badly rusted). That is a very tight area to work in. First, soak overnight with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster. Then use a punch and hammer to apply rapid succesive blows (not too hard -- you mainly want vibration) Then you can try to turn them with a good pair of vice grips. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

You can also try heating the remains of the screws and then while they are still red hot use a good pair of vice grips. The one that you removed replace it to hold the plate in place while you work on the others.

Biff's suggestion about heat is good, but I would try to heat the plate, not the screws. This might cause the hole to open up a little. Keep a fire extinguisher close.

Somewhere on these boards someone also said; throw some water on the bolt/plate while it is hot. I tried it and it seemed to work. Someone else cautioned that this stategy is one that could weaken the temper of the metal. In my case that didn't matter.
