door glass removal

any hints on removing door glass in one piece so it can be replaced

Remove the vent window, remove the latch side track, undo the bolts holding the crank and center to the door, tip the glass on the rollers and it will slide out of each roller, there is a slot in the track.
It is one of those try it a couple times, walk away, and when you come back to it, it just pops right out.

OK, basically you have to take the door apart.

Off the top of my head

take off handles/ latch. door panel.
take off top padded rail
take out rubber on one side and felt on the other - you will want to replace these even if you can save them which you likely can't.
loosen the front bolts for the vent windows and pullout the whole unit about 6 inches

unbolt the window winder mechanism and slide the wheels out of their tracks

Carefully pull the window out the slot.

hi, thanks for the reply, my door is basicly striped down to nothing but the glass and vent window .john, your reply to another post about the rubber seat the vent sits on, showed the pic marking the bolts to remove. and yes you only can get the vent up 2 inches before it binds on the window. i raised and lowered and wiggled the window but the vent won't come out with the glass in . would it be easier to cut the seal to go around the rear guide channel and the front bracket the 2 bolts marked "d" in your pic, on remove the glass?

Hey Bob, I didn't compute that we are continuing the same conversation. Do you want to actually pull out the window? When you say seal do you mean the rubber that goes in the window slot?

The vent come out after the window comes out. With the vent mechanism loose - and now the back channel loose, you will need to undo the bolts on the winding mechanism. with this loose, you will have to move the "arms" so that the wheels come out of the track at the bottom of the window. This is the metal piece that is bonded to the window. This isn't hard but you might loose some skin off your fingers. You should be able to move things around then and either move the window back far enough to get the vent out or vice versa.

BTW, as I recall there is a bracket on the bottom of the vent that is awkward but easier to take off now than slip through the slot.

thanks john, i get what is needed to move the window enough to pull the vent window up and out of the door.
i don't want to remove the window to work or replace it i want to move the window to get the vent frame out of the car so i can put a new rubber seal between the frame and the door. the seal needs to have the channel guide placed through a hole in the seal to fit on the underside of the frame.
