Door Check Strap

Hello everyone, the right door of my 100-Six Healey does not stay open. I have already changed the check strap twice, but the screw soon loses the thread and the door does not stop anymore. Do you have any advice? Thanks and greetings.

Re: door' s check strap

Sounds like the nut has stripped out. I once made one out of a standard LH nut by cutting a shoulder (using a lathe) on the bottom. I think nowadays you can buy all the individual pieces__except the stud may be part of the whole assembly, IF THAT's the piece that's stripped.

Re: door' s check strap

Thank you, but my problem is to understand why the nut or pin are flipped because I already bought three kits without getting a result. To be evaluated that at the first assembly the door keeps, but only halfway, greetings Stefano
Grazie, ma il mio problema è capire perché il dado o il perno sono capovolti perché ho già comprato tre kit senza ottenere un risultato. Da valutare che alla prima assemblea la porta mantiene, ma solo a metà strada, un saluto Stefano

The check straps are handed, they have LH and RH threads depending on which side they are on.
When you open the door the movement tightens the nut and puts more drag on the centre disk, that friction holds the door open.
When you chose the door the nut loosens and the door moves easier.
If I remember correctly the left door has normal RH thread and the right door has a LH thread.
Also don't use any lubricant on them.

I've also had the right-hand nut (LH thread) strip. A few years ago I bought some 5/16-24 LH nuts from a fastener supplier and used the setup in the pix instead of the shoulder on the stock nut.
First LH nut still working fine.

Used a lockwasher for a bushing on the friction pad.

For the spring, found a 5/16" ID brass bush off which I cut a slice. Another lockwasher probably would have worked here.

I'll try to put those washers. Thanks a lot and greetings Stefano
Proverò a mettere quelle rondelle. Grazie mille e tanti saluti
