Don't Tick Off a Woodpecker

Better the stump than your house. I've had to repair large holes in my siding from woodpeckers.

We have one that likes our redwood patio. Then there was this guy who was outside my office window back when I was still working. He was tapping away at the brick wall!

We've had a population explosion of woodpeckers in our area due to the Emerald Ash Borers. The neighborhood woodpeckers liked my Bradford pear and would leave concentric circles on the limbs. Eventually the Bradford had to go after a limb came down and clobbered my wife's Altima.

I’ve had one that would peck on the chimney cap on my wood stove chimney. It was stainless steel and sounded like a jackhammer in my family room. I believe the males make a lot of noise to attract a mate.

LOL. We have several woodpeckers but the house next door has 3 very large pecan trees right along our shared fence so they have plenty of good wood to peck. Also SWMBO keeps a suet cake hanging for them.
