Done with my latest project; Sortof.....

OK folks,

After a couple months of planning and execution, I'm nearly done with my latest project.. at least enough to post pics.

It's not as nice as Brosky's rig, and it doesn't have the flash of my old triple carbs, but I'm very satisfied with the results so far. Nice sub 1000rpm idle and the linkage, which pretty much was fabricated by Jeff Palya, works great. The intake sound on these beasts is LOUD.. much louder than the triple ZS carbs even when I was running K&N air filters.

What you're looking at are dual 2" SU HS8 carbs with Ramflo air cleaners.. I'm still working to find the correct needles to use, right now it's running obscenely rich with the UH needles, so I'm waiting on some substantially leaner UM needles from Joe Curto. Even running with the rich condition, it appears to be running a tick quicker than the triple carbs so says the tale-tale stop watch.

After I've sorted the A/F mixture out.. on the dyno she goes.

Very nice, congrats!

Looks great, Shannon. Did you have to do anything to match the HS8 bores to the I.D. of the stock manifold?

Yep, it was ported out to 2" and matched to the carbs.

Actually, Jeff Palya had purchased these carbs to install on his own TR6 until he decided to go with fuel injection.

Great job Shannon!

That looks really cool with those open filters and with the increased air volume from the 2" bore and the added fuel from the HS-8's, that should hum right along.

What is that chrome box on the right side of the firewall with the two black hoses going to and from it?

Looks like an oil vapor recovery device.

Ray is correct, it's my oil recovery tank... a slightly simpler version than having to punch a hole in the oil pan.

Is there any hood clearance issue on the front carb?
Pete

Pete,

No, there are no clearance issues... but it's a really close fit.

I just got my new needles from Joe Curto in today... can't wait to put them in... however I just got back from a car show so I've got to put some family time in (a Mustang show at that!! They didn't know what to make of a Brit car!!).

LDL,
Off topic a bit,but did you ever complete another video run with that amazing exhuast system?Saw your earlier one,but the wind noise was a little distracting. Saw you had the camera mounted now with options for sound pick up so was wondering when you might treat us to another ride along.

Well,

Trouble is.. a month or so ago, my home was broken into and the camera that I used was stolen and now most of the newer cameras available do not come with an analog input, which my remote camera requires.

I've been saving up to purchase a dvr that links up to the camera and mic that I already have, but that's nearly $600. At the time, I have better things to do with my money.

So the filming will have to wait for a bit.

Looks great Shannon, I bet you are really excited about getting it done!

Good job, Tinkerman
