Doing My Duty

Well, I'm currently sitting in a Jury duty waiting room - Let's see if I get put on a trial this time. I show up every two years, sit all day, I have been called in once or twice for interviews, but have always been dismissed.

While you're there - send me one of your prints of the little red Midget.....hehehe

They also serve, who sit and wait!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Here's some good news, two months ago I got selected, and the trial lasted two weeks!

Out for lunch. Hopefully they will get the process for the third case going ASAP after. I decided to stay in the waiting room and eat my lunch. Only a handful of people stayed. Wouldn't ya know it. The guy two seats over stays also and I must say that he is an incredibly digusting eater. He is chomping, smacking, burping, grunting - aaahhhh, I can't take it. I'm going to loose my lunch. I can't move because there are only a few spots in the computer area.

I think I can write a sitcom episode because of what is going right now. We are back from lunch - the guy next to me, on the other side, brings his lunch in - what was he doing for the past hour and a half. He is eating as noisily as the other guy, AND THE OTHER GUY IS STILL EATING! I'm hearing smacks, gulps, grunts, slurps in stereo. OH PLEASE CALL ME!

I finally got called on the 3rd trial. They seated eighteen out of the 40 or so called - went through the process of asking why people can't serve - Some people gave the lamest excuses even after the judge gave instructions on what is a valid reason for dismissal. They escalated their responses as the lawyers questioned them. Those same people were determined not to serve and ended up tarnishing their own reputations in order to be dismissed. That being said - they had to dismiss a whole lot of people to get to me. I was picked and start the case tomorrow. Can't say any more.

When I taught 9th grade we always took a field trip to court with our Civics teacher. He would pre-arrange for every student to have the opportunity to sit through a trial. We got lucky once and got there in time to view the "voir dire" (?) Watch the testimony, witnesses and were late getting to the buses to leave cause the Jury came in with a verdict and we wanted to stay and see the WHOLE process (in 7 hours) Anyway, I found it fascinating and would not mind at all serving. I have never been called and I understand that since I was once a law enforcement officer and my brother is an attorney here in town that they would probably dismiss me anyway. <sigh> Maybe I;ll graduate to 9th grade again someday......

Cliff, just hope you are not sitting next to your slob friend

Last time I was in a "pool" I carried Colin Powell's autobio to read, interview was usual. Family members in SWAT, friends in Sheriff's office, mildly cynical answers to lawyers' questions. On the way out one of the others inna pool said he'd put $10 on me NOT bein' chosen... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
