Doh!... I mean WOO HOO!

On the long drive home from work today, I come to a stop at one of the many, many stoplights between my exit and my house. I check my oil pressure. It's about 11-12 psi (I drove it hard on the way home). I am little disappointed, but it's still better than what I had and good enough to drive. After 3 light cycles and about 7 years of waiting, it's my turn to go. Vroom, I take off. As I am doing my typical routine scan of my gauges, something seems off. My oil pressure is 11-12 psi at 4000 RPM! Oh no! I ease it home and kill it. But just to check, I fire it up again. NO OIL PRESSURE!... but wait a minute... the oil light went out. Hmmmmmmmm.

After the kids are fed and my wife is back from class, I pull the capillary tube fitting... and there is a small piece of teflon tape draped across the tube opening.

Phew!

Teflon Morris - nothing sticks to him!

Took Idgy out for a spin Sunday afternoon.. cruising by the river, smiling and waving at the people....all of the sudden, it begins to miss. A dead miss. Didn't lose power and pressure is still O.K. but it sounds like a VW all of the sudden./bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif (What have I done now?) I drive to a lot nearby and pull over, and open the hood...plug wire has come off...I must have knocked it when I was replacing the vent for the heater (yea! I got heat now)

Whew! What a relief!

On the road again!!!

Hehehe, reminds me of the time when I'm driving along and the car is purring...made a corner and the car died...dead as a doornail!...when I turned the corner and flipped the indicator switch it seems I bumped the ign. key just enough to kill the ignition but not turn the key all the way!! Phew! a little twist, a pull and I was roarin' down the road again!! Gotta love BEs!!

A while back, driving along and pretty proud of myself the way my 1275 was running and all of the sudden dead! Pulled over and tried to start. Fired right up, no problem. Headed home and died again. Got it home and started to investigate. Turns out the ignition switch on the column had come loose. Was able to repair and on the road again! Always carry a few tools in the trunk now. Happy Days!!

And those are fun stories and end as they should. Most of our problems, after we get the LBC sorted out from 30 years of neglect, are small and easly fixable.

ahhh yes the "fun" reminds me of pullling away from a light last summer... Midge flat out dies dead with the typical moron honking their horn at me (ya I really want to be stopped in the left lane you moron!!), fortunately Midge is easy to push into nearby parking lot, after short investigation I beat the aftermarket fuel pump with trusty hammer & were tickin & running again - replaced that fuel pump few days later  Guess the diaphram doesn't like my lead & octane additives... gear pump fixed that issue.

Once I was coming home from work (not in my bugeye, for better or worse), and the car suddenly started going BANG BANG BANG--almost as if the exhaust pipe had fallen off, but not fast enough. Engine speed was rising and falling as I struggled off the freeway. Figured that something so dramatic had to be obvious, so I looked under the hood and saw a big hole where a spark plug should have been! Looked around the engine compartment, and there was my plug, sitting on a suspension arm. Picked it up with a rag, screwed it in by hand, reattached the wire, and got home.

Turns out I'd had a tune up, and the dim-bulb mechanic had forgotten to tighten the plugs. Amazing that it didn't run badly until the plug finally popped out. So, I tightened all the plugs and all was well.

Ha ha ha!

That same dim-bulb mechanic has worked on my car!... DOH!

A few years ago I was working on a freind of mines Mini Moke
Had it running great So we jumped in to get a beer about half way to the bar a Meadow Lark Cometed suicide in to the Moke The Moke Shortly after died! The bird went up under the car and ripped the fuel pump wire connector loose!
What the ... Talk about wierd!

One of my dim bulb moments was recognized several yrs ago. Here in KC I had a problem when it got really hot. It happened only at highway speeds when the temp was over 100. The electric fuel pump would quit. This happened maybe 3 times. I found after a short wait, all was well and I was off and OK. After about 15 yrs of this issue, during one of those winter redos, I took off the fuel pump and the hot wire almost fell off. Whoops. These cars are amazing.
