Got this stock-style center muffler in today, and the mounting bracket that is welded on seems to be about 20* or so rotated around. Am I missing something?

It looks to me like the bracket was welded on at the wrong angle. If you bolt that on it will make the muffler be angled under the car. I don't see an easy, simple fix short of something real Mickey Mouse. A muffler shop could cut that off and weld on a correct bracket but you shouldn't have to take a brand new part and have it modified to fit properly.

I'm going to return it and go another route. Frustrating, but that's the way it is.

I've an appointment now with my local shop to have a custom pipe and muffler put on. That'll solve the underlying issue. Will deal with the returns as well.

Re: Does this MGB center muffler look right to you

I'm trying very hard not to get on one of my rants about quality, but this is the second poorly-made item I've received for the B this week. I truly don't blame the manufacturer -- in the sense that they make the item to the spec and quality level that the seller requires. There are factories in every country that make superior, high quality items. This isn't one of them, however.

I will be in contact with the vendor to discuss this. I'll happily pay twice the price if the item would be correct.

These sort of things are why I get so vocal in support of the vendors (like Hap at ACME and Jeff at Advance Distributors) that provide a quality service at a fair price. They seem all to rare these days.

The old Stebro systems were the first thing I'd put on a B. Now it's a Monza or Ansa.

I actually had to make the "bobbins" that fit into the metal sleeve for the thru-bolt on that hanger, too. The ones available thru vendors are scrap, IMO.

I bought two stainless Falcon systems from Moss, one for the MGB and one for the TF. They both fit perfect with no mods. They seem to be of high quality material and sound nice. PJ

Car is going to my local muffler shop on Tuesday morning to have a system fit up. Should solve the problem.

Drove the car into work this morning, first time since the new system was put on. Shop welded up a custom system for me, small glass pack resonator instead of the middle muffler, standard-type muffler out back. car is nice and quiet now, which suits me just fine for the time being.

Was nice to finally be able to drive it again, been a few weeks since I could do that.
