before the computer goes out the window!

I am so frustrated right now you can't imagine. I want to add numbers to a document and every time I try, all I get on the page, is a faded (cause it's in the header) thing that says {page} (with brackets) on every page.

Help!

quick

thanks

I went to "insert page numbers"... it shows up on the screen as gray, but it prints in black.

edit: I did not get any brackets... I even went to format to see if I could change the numbers to include brackets but did not see any.

OK figured it out - Alt F9 goes back to numbers from the code. whew. no i need to figure out why the numbers only show on the left side of the page even when I tell them to get to the right side

Turn your screen around JP :jester:

Don't make me come over there....

OK, got it to move, don't ask me how. now to figure out how to suppress the numbers on the first three pages.

I have another plan - this should do for now - will keep you posted

Don't know if you can supress the page numbers for the first three pages...... you may have to make a separate doc. for the three pages.... just my best guess.

edit: I left the light on for you

that's what I realized and need to do - and, sleep with one eye open....

Your frustation with WORD (of any vintage) is exactly why I never use it.

I always use WORDPAD, which allows me to actually control what I am typing (there's a novel idea!). It's in your PC (under <span style="font-style: italic">Accessories</span>)

I don't need the main features of WORD. I already know how to spell and construct a sentence.

If I am in doubt about spelling unfamiliar words, I paste the document into WORD <span style="text-decoration: underline">after</span> I have written it in WORDPAD.

[edit-WORPAD doesn't support page numbering so you'd be stuck with WORD for that]

I number my pages manually as I go.

But then, I'm a Luddite!

Make those first three pages a separate section.

tried and tried - no luck, but when I print them I will
