Most of ours have been indoor felines. But a neighbor had one for years who would accompany her and her dog for walks around th' 'hood. Another, more recent one (and a different neighbor) follows their kids to the bus stop, returns to the stop in the afternoon to walk the kids home. They ain't dumb critters, just more aloof and self-sufficient than canines when domesticated.
For years we had a cat who would go on walks with us. No lease obviously (cats don't do leashes).
But after about 1/2 mile he would start yowling. It was easy to tell what he wanted.....it was like he was saying:
"Come on guys! That's enough! Let's turn around and go home!"
If we kept walking, he'd yowl and meow louder and louder. Eventually, we'd turn back and that made him happy. He lived mostly outdoors but usually came in when it was snowing.
He was born in an airport hanger and we named him after the guy who saved all the kittens (Mr. Pettigrew). He was the runt of the litter. Lived to be almost 22.
My cat who is 11 years old, has always followed me from the house to the shop and will stay there all day until I go back to the house. When she was little, I would always pick her up and carry her back. She's 11 now and still does the same thing and STILL wants me to carry her back! I created a monster! Oh well, I still give her some treats every day.:smile-new: PJ
Thanks for that share. We have Scally and Sam and I wouldn't trade them. Also had Stink, Snickers and Pixie. They had canine pals as well - Baron, Toby and George. Love(d) them all. Each had their own personality, some much smarter than the other but all definitely loved. The video was my warm fuzzy for the day.
Had a Siamese back in the '70's, got him 10 weeks old, named him Bereketh. Leash trained him and he accompanied us on trips from VA to PA, Elan or MGB. He at first was able to be "contained" in a Royal Crown blue bag dangling from the passenger side courtesy lamp switch. As he outgrew the bag he would sit across my shoulders. If the speed dropped much below 50MPH he would mumble and complain until we were back up to speed. If we'd make a "pit stop" folks would comment on the oddity of a leash trained cat.
